Elisabeth Motley/ Motley Dance explores connecting movement with a vocal processor, an electronic box that sonically loops and distorts the voice. In this electronically interactive class dancers will be guided through the experiment of creating their own vocal scores that echo Motley’s movement phrases. We will warm up using Motley’s interpretation of Viewpoints for the voice and begin to embody our vocalizations by pinpointing physical resonators. Connecting the dynamic choices we make with sound to our bodies, a movement vocabulary will be explored that expresses articulate, detailed gestures and supple motions of the arms, hands, legs and spine. The problem of how the body and voice functions or malfunctions will be examined. Emphasis is placed on large, full- bodied movement, athletic specificity, tempo, idiosyncratic motion and change of level. Vocal/ Dance Score will explore score making in every variant.
